Ask Deepak

Who is it that is asking this question?.

Quote.

When your mind and heart are truly open abundance will flow to you effortlessly and easily.

Question:

“It has been said by sages that one’s essential nature is pure awareness, and I have accepted that is true.

Our real self is awareness.

I want to know who, as a physical body, the one who is asking you the question….exactly who is this?

Is this the conscious mind, the frontal lobe of the brain, or the mental body?”

Response:

The question “Who is this ‘me’ that is asking who it is?” may seem like a simple question, but it is tricky and needs clarification.

You make a distinction between the real self as awareness and the ‘me’ you say is doing the asking as a physical body.

The easiest way to understand this is that the ‘me’ you refer to may be associated with many characteristics of a body, personality, thoughts, beliefs, feelings, memories, and sensations, but none of those things is the ‘me’ that you have felt to be yourself that hasn’t changed throughout your life.

It is more than any experience, or the accumulation of experiences could be.

That is why the brain, or mind cannot comprehend or know the essential ‘me.’

The real ‘me’ is awareness, and it isn’t a distinct thing or object, like a book that can be known as separate from the one knowing it.

The relative, conditioned ‘me’ can never know exactly who the non-changing, unconditioned ‘me’ is, because the ego mind doesn’t have the capacity to know the true Self.

Only the true Self can know itself, by itself and through itself. This pure awareness is the source or essence of ‘me.’

Love,

Deepak
