The Path of Service.

Quote.

When your mind and heart are truly open abundance will flow to you effortlessly and easily.

Question:

Thank you for your many books.  I read them through, but I don’t have the scientific knowledge, the brains or the level of enlightenment to fully understand.  I would like to understand more because maybe I would be happier.  I run an outreach mission to the poor and the homeless people in my town, and things have gotten very bad.  I work many hours a week and I’m kind of on the old side (62).  I have tried many times to meditate more and make progress, but I can’t seem to.  So, I think I have to stay on my simple path of helping the poor and trusting in the Universe, the Tao, whatever you want to call it.  Does this seem okay to you?  I know that question is kind of dumb, but it would really help me to know what you think.

Response:

I think you are doing a wonderful service to humanity. God bless you. You don’t need academic knowledge or understanding to make spiritual progress or to contribute to making this a better world. You are already helping your spiritual progress by helping others. Don’t think of yourself as old, you’re just attaining the age of wisdom.

If you would like a meditation practice that you can do right now, do the So Hum meditation where you easily pay attention to your in-breath while you think “so” and think the sound “hum” when you exhale. When your mind drifts off to other thoughts, gently come back to So Hum. Do this meditation without judgment or expectation whenever you have a few minutes. That’s all you need for now.

Your path of service and compassion is the noblest of paths. You are a shining example for all of us.

Love,

Deepak
