How can we teach our children spirituality?.

Quote.

When your mind and heart are truly open abundance will flow to you effortlessly and easily.

Question:

“My seven-year-old daughter has a strong resistance to all things related to spirituality.

When our family visited cathedrals in France, for example, she wanted to leave immediately.

She has acted similarly upon visiting a Buddhist temple or being in the presence of art with a strong sacred theme.

She is also very much against any mention of prayer.

We first started noticing this when she was about age 4 or 5 and we are not sure of its roots.

We are not a “religious” family, however, my husband practices yoga and we are both interested in meditation and spiritual topics.

As parents, we would also like to help nurture our daughter’s spiritual awareness.

She is a shy, very sensitive child, but overall healthy and happy.

Do you have any ideas?  P.S. She does love fairies and mermaids.”

Response:

Your daughter may not like churches and temples and religious art, but that doesn’t mean she resists spirituality.

It could be that she has some preexisting aversion to orthodoxy, ritual and institutional religion.

You can talk to her about how all these forms and traditions of the divine come out of an unmanifest, formless, timeless experience that is her own deepest essence.

But one can live this spiritual content of life without having to rely on external forms or images.

If she prefers a bare-bones spiritual experience, you can tell her that there are simple practices, not prayer, that allow her to directly experience this core essence within.

If she’s not interested now, that’s fine, but if she is, then you can have her instructed into a silent meditation.

Love,

Deepak
