Are we Masters of time – Part 2

November 9th, 2009

7

The mind gives us mastery over our lives far more than people recognize. It’s become unrespectable to make such claims for the mind, because the fashion is to give all credit to the brain. In the first part of this post we argued that the mind, although invisible, is the true creator of reality, including the brain’s reality.

Let’s see how far this bold statement can take us.

There’s no doubt that you possess hidden powers. You have mastered levels of Nature you aren’t aware of.  When you reach for a piece of chocolate, your desire is carried out by your arm automatically. Yet away from your awareness, the motor cortex in your brain sent electro-chemical signals to your arm muscles. You aren’t aware of this level of Nature, but it obeys you nonetheless.

Going to a inner level, brain and muscle cannot do anything without thousands of chemical reactions taking place in every cell each second. These also obey your command to reach for a piece of chocolate. Since cells operate by creating new proteins and enzymes, we can say that you literally create whatever is needed to carry out your desires. There is no gap between what you want and what your body does. (When there is a gap, some disorder or disease process has created damage in the chain of command.) The quantum world, where atoms interact to form the building blocks of life, is open to consciousness.

Once we get to this ultra-subtle level of nature, more is coming into being than just particles and waves, although that is primarily what quantum physics studies. Time and space also come into being. Are they under the mind’s command, also? We speak casually about people who rewrite the past to suit themselves. What if that is literally true?

In the laboratory, isolated experiments have shown that photons can travel from point A to point B without crossing the space in between: this is a rudimentary form of teleportation. In the same vein, when an observer performs the classic experiment that determines whether light will act as a wave or a particle  (we discussed this in Part 1 of this post), the so-called observer effect can be delayed.  A beam of light can wait until a second observer, using a second piece of equipment, makes a later observation. Then and only then does it “decide” to be a wave or particle.
Without going into complications, what is happening is a rudimentary way of changing the past. By delaying what will be observed, an action in the future is able to change an action in the past. History is literally rewritten. Of course, in both these cases, whether we are talking about teleportation or changing the past, the experiments are isolated and very tiny. Yet speculative thinking carries us to exciting possibilities.

In science fiction time travel is common, but in real life it supposedly can’t exist. Why not? Because time travel runs into paradoxes. Here’s a familiar one: if you travel back in time and kill your grandfather, you wouldn’t be born. Since you were never born, you can’t travel back in time to kill anybody, thereby negating your ability to not be born. A paradox. But in the rich spiritual tradition of India, there’s a way out. One could rise to a level of consciousness that escapes the limitations of time. This so-called state of enlightenment exists in everyone, potentially. If any person is able to master time, by implication there must be a way to explain how it works.

The observer effect gives us a clue. Simply by looking at light in the laboratory, and doing nothing else, an observer can determine whether the light is a wave or particle. There’s nothing special about light being shone in a  lab. Ordinary light is affected by the observer effect.  In fact, everything you are looking at right now depends upon you to exist.

This includes not just objects and events but time itself.  Time didn’t create you; you created time. Other sentient beings would perceive time in totally different ways. Why, then, do two people agree when they look at their watches? Because as life forms, we are set up to repeat the perceptions of our ancestors. Our brains are the depository of all the realities that have been experienced over two billion years. DNA makes us who we are, in terms of brain activity. However, our every action alters DNA at the same time.

IN this case, we cannot tell the dancer from the dance, to paraphrase the poet W. B. Yeats. His famous line even implies the observer effect: “O brightening glance, how can we know the dancer from the dance?” Sitting here in the present, you and I aren’t aware of being the masters of time, but if we knew our consciousness deeply enough, we would see it. After all, before the advent of microscopes, no one would have believe that thinking “I want some chocolate” depends upon mastery of quantum reactions.

The latest Nobel Prize in physics was given for the basic discovery of how photons can carry information through fiber optic cables. That represents the state of current knowledge.  The late Herms Romijn, a brilliant Dutch neurologist, surmised that photons also carry consciousness. They interface everyday reality with the quantum world and beyond to the realm of intelligence, information, and awareness.

You aren’t aware that you create the scent of a rose by smelling it, or that what you decide today can alter something you did yesterday.  None of us were raised to think that way.  But as speculative thinkers, backed up by thousands of years of spiritual insight and the most current experimental evidence, we believe that thinking can be changed. It must. As long as we remain prisoners of materialism, destined to obey random events and subatomic interactions over which we have no power, the true nature of mind will be distorted. More importantly, we will postpone the day when we can master every level of Nature through no more than the wisp of a thought and the power of an intention.

this is all so fascinating and mind-opening… however… i wonder… why haven’t we been aware of all this since the beginning of time??? why are our DNA and subconcious filled with such erroneous information that we have to replace in order to become our full selves… wouldn’t it have been easier just to be born like that??… is that maybe the real “lost paradise”??? and when we finally master all our potentiality and all our respective ones intertwine harmoniously with each other’s… will the object of existence be no more??? kind of a scary thought for me… makes me kind of wish we remain somewhat ignorant for a while longer… at least ignorant enough… of course i still would like to benefit from some mind mastering though… just the right amoung ;) … just random thoughts and somewhat silly although nonetheless truthful comments… all my love to everyone… thank you deepak…

I enjoyed both parts 1 and 2 of this series. Also, the other blogs on “time and space”. My own spiritual and consciousness development has been exploring this area for sometime. It seems that mainstream neuro-science still looks to the brain as the “kingpin” and mind/consciousness as only an epiphenomena.

I’ve come to the point that I completely experience the opposite and that the “world-at-large”, including my brain/body, is a manifestation of a field of consciousness beyond either. Time/space also are experienced as illusory, though seemingly “rock solid”.

These are not abstract concepts to me anymore. I can now understand what Einstein meant when he stated that “Reality is an illusion, albeit a persistent one.”

Now, wouldn’t the next step be to gain some conscious control over these “illusions” of time/space/matter/energy, as you suggest in your last sentence of obtaining a “mastery with no more than a thought or intention”?

Surely, if the future is influencing the past on a micro level than it must be doing so on a macro level as well. We’re just not aware of it.

What practices and processes can be used to work toward this mastery? I and many others are working with some now, but it is too lengthy to go into in this forum. What would you suggest, Deepak.

I know Fred Alan Wolf touched on this quite well in his book “The Yoga of Time Travel”, which you wrote a glowing blurb about. This area deserves more investigation on a macro level.

There will aways be closed minded skeptics and “nay sayers”. To the materialist/reductionist this will be labeled “pseudo science” and “woo woo snake oil.” No amount of argumentation will awaken them, only a profound shift in their own consciousness(which many neny even exits!

I’ll finish with a quote from Albert Einstein: “That which is impenetrable to us really exists. Behind the secrets of nature remains something subtle, intangible and inexplicable.”

Forgive this lengthy reply. Thank you.

Seems to me what Deepak is describing here is the EXPERIENCE inside us is changing. We don’t create the smell of the rose. But the experience of that smell exists within us. To some, that scent may cause sneezing, a violent reaction. To another, there is no smell. The smell has no meaning until it enters the human mind, otherwise, it is just atoms & energy.

And thus, we CAN change the past in our own mind! For Gandhi, being thrown from the train was a magical moment that birthed non-violent revolution. For another man, he still holds on to offense and hatred.

Nothing exists but in our mind. Satan exists because of the minds of men. Satan does not exist for animals, the earth, the stars. A super-nova is not caused by Satan. And thus man created Satan. Man creates his own suffering. This is the pain of eating the apple. Humans are caught forever in duality and creating good and evil.

This is what I hear Deepak saying.

In reference to the above comment…”The smell has no meaning until it enters the human mind”…..
    There are not many minds…
There is only “One Mind” and it is not human..

Man did not create anything as man can not create….Only God -One Mind, creates…and God does not create through the thoughts of Man as the ideas and thoughts of God are already established…There is no time in God Consciousness in which to have to create something….

Man can awaken to this fact of Being and become conscious of God’s ideas manifesting through the expression of mankind but human beings do not create..

Satan is not an entity that exist…rather there is an impersonal force that exist for our individual use….The force itself is harmless..

It is relatively true in this human experience when we say nothing is good or bad but thinking makes it so…

In the absolute understanding All is Good…and there is no evil nor has there ever been…

duality is a temporal mirage like experience and it fades to nothing as an individual awakens out of it into the understanding of his infinite True Nature in Immortal Conscious being

Even Jesus couldn’t be tempted to demonstrate his Power for show, to make the unbeliever, believe.
You sound like the so called devil now… The real question is Mr Hackman, what good have you demonstrated in your own individual life? Have you healed others of illness and suffering like the disciples did, and like Deepak has?. Have you brought others to know the peace and Goodness that is within them, by your own living example? Tell me about the good in your life and what you do to demonstrate it, as that would have more healing effect on everyone who visits this website then the angry misplaced judgment that you dish out….Again, if there really was a devil, you would be it….But we are all the children(expressions) of God,Good(some only in potential)…Just some who don’t realize that yet, and therefore they can not fully demonstrate good in their own individual lives yet…Don’t worry Mr Hackman you will understand some day…In Truth you are a perfect Idea of God……You just don’t fully know it yet and therefore can’t express it….Peace to you,
    Gyanama

Your response is not a Christian one at all. Mr Hackman many of your responses are not based on the loving teachings of Christ. Teachings that you profess to follow. If your an example of the Christ teachings then I would not want anything more to do with those teachings…Fortunate for most of us on this website that we understand the teachings of Christ and continue to forgive you for your judgments and unkindness….And yes Deepak has Divine understanding and I do see him and many others who truly live the loving Christ like example…

And the antagonism you are offended by is what you yourself create in your own mind. Deepak has written beautifully about the Christian principles, but my guess is you have not read through one of his books and that you speak out the side of your mouth…and I bet for sure I am right about that. Also, how would you like it if someone told you the Bible was full of Bologna, and yet they never even read the Bible before…In fact have you read it completely? Have you read Romans, Acts, St, Paul’s Epistle all the Gospels even? Do you understand the symbolic meaning of Revelations?

You talk and respond to other individuals foolishly without thorough investigation. You will not be getting anymore reply’s from me.

I will speak to you from here on in through Silent knowing…

God be with you as you grow and learn…

    Gyanama
