Dear Friends,
Buddha’s message is more relevant today then at any other time in the history of humanity. In order to survive as a species and a planet and participate in the future evolution of the universe, we must realize our interbeingness and our inseparability in a single domain of consciousness. Survival of the wisest must replace survival of the fittest and the evolution of our consciousness must become our highest priority.
I wrote this novel because I felt that that Siddhartha, the prince, was as mortal and as vulnerable as you and I; and yet he had a shift in consciousness that radically influenced human beings for the next 2,500 years. The story of Buddha gives us inspiration that we too can gain perspective, understanding, and insight on how to best live and work together.
On May 1st “Buddha: A Story of Enlightenment” will be released nationwide. I would love for everyone to post an original definition for the word “enlightenment” within my MySpace blog, deepakchopra.com and intent.com websites.
I am going to choose 2 definitions from each site that are creative and unique. If you are chosen you will have the opportunity to attend a reception and lecture while I am on the Buddha book tour. If I am not coming to your city then you can attend a Soul of Healing course in San Diego or New York City. Details will be emailed directly to you.

Enlightenment is being awake here and now, all encompassing love and understanding without prejudice and judgement and being your true and pure self like you were before your physical birth.

Enlightenment means to me full awareness of the soul and supreme quietness of the mind and it’s constant concern with worldliness.

Enlightenment-is a place in which one travels to. However, the joy of Enlightenment is not in just being there, at that location on the spiritual map, rather the joy is in the journey on which one embarks on and the goal of that journey is to arrive in to Enlightenment. The process by which one reaches Enlightenment is what allows for the awakening of the true self. The journey that people embark on is what allows for people to find their purpose in life.
THE LOVE OF LEARNING=THE LEARNING OF LOVE
(This is to the world of spirit, as e=mc2 was to the world of physics.)
I admit I am quite self-absorbed when it comes to education, but I am now totally of the sacred belief, that only by educating all young people to love learning, can we achieve true world peace. I say: “Motivation and Love Learning First: Then, Knowledge and Power From Knowledge, Second.” Our public schools must begin to see the difference, and soon too,lest the needless division of socioeconomic classes creates wrong karma, that usually begins war. We are already too close to war as it is! Only “GOLDEN EDUCATION FOR ALL SCHOOLS CAN CREATE REAL WORLD PEACE.” EVERY SCHOOL, EVERY CLASSROOM=LOVE OF LEARNING!=WORLD LOVE OF BEING. IF ALL LOVE LEARNING, ALL WILL BECOME DEMOCRATIC ACTIVIST HUMAN RIGHT THINKERS, AND WE ALL CAN BECOME LAWYERS FOR CHANGING THE SYSTEMS FROM WITHIN PEACEFULLY. WE MUST ALL BECOME AS GHANDI! ALL LEADERS, NOT FOLLOWERS IS TRUE INDEPENDENCE FROM BRAINWASHING, AS GEORGE HARRISON TRIED TO WARN US OF IN HIS VERY LAST, MOST PROFOUND ALBUM, CALLED OF COURSE, “BRAINWHASHING.” ONLY GREAT TEACHERS AND GURUS ARE THE TRUE LEADERS, THE BUDDHAS, THAT IF WE FOLLOW AS SUCH, SOMEDAY ALL OF US TOO, WILL BECOME BUDDHAS TOO! MAY YOU LOVE LEARNING, AND FIND SPECIAL GURU, A PRAYER OF SERIOUS DELIGHT.
Enlightenment a word and which is a reality is the birth right of all and which is becoming a reality today, to me it means liberation, a state to accept and experience everythigs the way it is in complete bliss, to some the awakenig of the ATMAN and to some where no questions arise. All in all JEEVAN MUKTHI which can go on and on, the first step towards U being one with the true source of existence the PARABRAHMA.
Enlightenment is when your soul goes on a journey through both space and spirit where you hear the voice of god telling you nothing matters, so you leave all your missery and darkness behind you and god keeps saying nothing matters untill you see a light ahead of you, you become one with this light and remember that this light is god and all things, you feel eternal now seeing all time, your thoughts are now your light your soul always god. Then you realize that you know where all the parties are because you can hear the thoughts of those that love you. You can dodge a punch to the face days before it happens.
@Lucy Aguirre-Barrios – Dr. Lucy, how good it is to see that we both still appreciate the purest essence of life. After reading all the comments posted, the next time I return to the States from Africa, I will locate a copy of Dr. Chopra’s novel to add to my collection of his works here with me.
what is….. i think its more than all those things i just read here….. as a matter of fact i know it is. i have been continouisley seeking ever since i saw my own being. sometimes, i think if i tell people this i will be put in the crazy house! i think my mind was so clear that day while meditating, that it showed itself to me. i have seen some other very spiritual visions since then. i have finnaly connected with the spiritual side of me, and had the chance to see my spirit animate my soul. sometimes i wonder if this is my calling…. i remember telling someone in a vision “please dont make me a martyr”. enlightenment is letting go of all the things that the world has put on you.. i dont worry anymore.. not even about death, because i know what i am, and know where i came from, and where i am going. its a release of all worldly pressures…. it means seeing things how they truly are…its learninghow to truly love and learning to listen to that inner being… it speaks youknow;)
enlightenment is being love, being conscious, being aware, being yourself.
Enlightenment is the profound awareness one’s true essence which is a constant flow of interchanging energy that transcends space-time, and is shared with everything and everyone.
Enlightenment is the state of pure beingness.
I think enlightenment is a state when the body and mind becomes light ie almost nothing and the soul being filled with light ie no single drop of darkness and in that light we would realize the meaning of life, this universe and the divine.

Are you familiar with the word Meep? It has become the most talked about word. A universal pure and versatile word in our current time. The word Meep, meaning anything you want it to mean, it’s all on how you use the word and the thought behind it…and yet the word Meep itself is pure. Also from Boston article which I have a link below to, A school principle banned the word from being used in the school as the students were using this word meep in a negative 4 letter context, if you know what I mean…?
There is a great paradox being illustrated in the world Meep
But here is what is delightfully interesting, The word Meep- when said is known to bring joy to the person who says it, because of it’s long e sound…..makes one want to smile… The very word spoken brings a positive uplifting response….

Open your eyes and you will see…you must have been fooled throughout your life by what is outside yourself and not inside…
